The County Assemblies of Isiolo and Kakamega are set for their first sittings after Governors Abdi Hassan and Fernandes Barasa issued notices in the Kenya Gazette. In the Gazette Notice dated 16th September, the respective Governors gave notice on the convening of the first sitting of the Third County Assemblies scheduled for Tuesday 20th September for Isiolo and Wednesday 21st September for Kakamega.
The first sitting of any County Assembly must be convened by the newly sworn in County Governor after the General Elections and a notice issued in the Kenya Gazette notifying the public on the same. It is during this first sitting of the County Assembly that the Clerks of the County Assemblies administer the Oath or Affirmation of Office to all elect Members of County Assembly. Thereafter, the newly sworn in Members of County Assembly elect a Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the County Assembly are elected into office. The law provides that this first sitting must commence at 9.00am on the appointed day.
